Go CHAIN Gang!

The Chesterfield Chain Gang MTB Team was founded in 2015 by former competitive cyclist, Ann Hardy who led the team to win the Virginia High School Cycling League’s 2015 series championship. Ann continued as Head Coach during the 2016 NICA season, sharing her amazing talents, know-how, and passion for the sport of mountain biking with all.

The Chesterfield Chain Gang is honored to have had the expertise, kindness, and enthusiasm of the late Lieutenant Jay Cullen (Coach Jay) as Head Coach during the 2017 NICA season. His focus and motivation provided valuable life long lessons; the team will always ride hard and smart in his memory.

Under the tutelage of experienced and dedicated volunteers who love the sport of mountain biking, the Chain Gang continues to grow and excel.

Our knowledgeable Head Coach, Paula Labieniec is backed by a focused volunteer group ready to promote the sport and lead the team in NICA's core principles of equality, inclusivity, strong body, strong mind, and strong character.

This fantastic crew lead our Middle School team members take home the 2018 NICA Champions title, and our hard work executive board propelled us to proudly become a non-profit group in 2020.

With trained coaches (some team member parents & others who are passionate riders willing to share), every rider has the support they need. The pride from strong effort, the smiles from seeing improvement, the comradery of teammates, and the joy in every rider's accomplishments and growth make the sweat equity more than worth it!

Mountain biking rocks!

Skilled and dedicated coaches are an important aspect of our team. Chain Gang coaches put the safety and overall well-being of our student-athletes as 1st priority; they are role models and teachers who are open to learning the best practices of youth mountain bike coaching and actively work to hone their leadership skills. Chesterfield Chain Gang coaches are registered with NICA, have undergone NICA training, have passed background checks, and have concussion training. Higher level coaches have increased CPR, First Aid, and risk management training.

that moment you forget you are giving up free time because you are having so much fun helping others! Come get a healthy dose of "volunesia"..... volunteer.

This team runs on volunteers, with help coaching to race day set-up , there is something for everyone to help with. One of the best parts of the team is all the parents who end up falling in love with mountain biking too. This is not a sign your kid up and "see ya later" kind of sport - we need volunteers and want to see as many parents as possible involved!
